    Default Lady Kestrel

This was shot in late December of last year. Dave Salem and I spent many weeks with this feather perfect female Kestrel, she provided us with some of the best flight and portrait opportunities. This was from one of the last days that she returned to the same location like clockwork, hope to see her next year. Thanks for your helpful comments.

Sweet light, bg and look back pose, Glenn. You could have afforded some more DOF, but looks like you were setup for flight? Either way, it's a great image that I'd be thrilled to have.

Beautful, Glenn! Nice eye contact, colors and focus on the upper body - not to mention the perch! In hindsight f/7.1 or so would probably have brought the tail in focus as well but it works for me as-is! I haven't seen such a nice, soft BG in a while! Well done!

    Hi Glenn.

great topside view of this lady! f/7.1 will def not bring the tail into focus at this distance and FL. You got the head and backside sharp and that's where it counts.

The only thing I might do is to reduce the slight green cast

I like the shot very much indeed my only criticism is the colour cast.

You've definitely gotten your money's worth out of the beautiful lass. Great pose, perch and bg. I also noted the DOF issue but as Arash points out, a stop or two wouldn't have helped if you were close. And it's the sharp head that matters most.

She sure is a beauty, Glenn. Very well done. Like the perch and BG. I'm okay with the tail feathers.

Gorgeous image of the kestrel Glenn!! I only wish the sun had been a bit more to your right (5 o'clock rather than 7). Why? To light the top part of the perch and talon...I realize that was not possible at that time, just an out loud wish...

    Beautiful shot....perfect, basically.

I have enjoyed many of the shots of this bird that have appeared here. I wonder if it used to be a falconry bird that was released back into the wild. As we all know most kestrels are wary to say the least.

Great backside image with a nice head turn to help take it up a notch. I'm not sure you could have gotten the entire bird in the dof, but it couldn't have hurt to stop down a bit (maybe f/11, f/16). Not sure you would have been ready for any in flight shots though.
