Little owl in late evening sun (wild and free)
Hi, another of my little owl, shot was taken in the little owls territory ,I have a few perches knocking around and its pot luck which one the bird lands on,when the sun is just about to set I get this colour from the rocks in the quarry ,I do drop the vibrancy by -15 from the raw file as it does always look a bit strong ,taken with a canon 1d mkiii and a canon 400mm 5.6 1/400 sec iso 800 ev +1

Awesome bg and a cool looking owl. Low the sharp details and especially the talong showing. Vert might work too, but that bg is way too pretty to crop out. Feels a bit tight on the bottom, but perhaps you wanted to de-emphasize the "unnatural" perch.

Hi, I didn't like the perch as it was a old sign post that someone had painted with red oxide, not pretty at all,but just behind to the left was a lovely Rock but I missed him when he landed their on this occasion

Beautiful owl with lots of good details. Excellent BG, good call reducing its vibrancy in post...it looks just right as processed. A bit of a cyan cast on the owl's plumage that you may want to check by adding a tiny bit of red and/or yellow to it.

Very nice image of the owl. Crop is not balance to my eye, too much room on top and not enough on the bottom. Better perch would be ideal. Very nice overall.

Hi Keith, its a bit hard to explain but I will try, the male little owls territory and favourite roosting area is a crevis in the side of the rock quarry and this is were all my perches ,rocks etc are situated even though their is a abundance of natural rocks etc, when the sun is about to go down the sun is over my left shoulder and it hits the Rocks of the quarry which are on the North side and produces the golden glow ,I have put a small video on my flickr page of the owls mating from last night ,nothing special but it shows were I get my shots ,and the sun is directly behind me hope that helps,i have lots of shots like this ....my flickr is den9112 were the video is ,it was taken at dusk so light not great and when the owls are around I wait for them to leave the area naturally before I get out of my hide.PS sorry Keith no need to go to Flickr its now on my website if you want to look .Thanks
