    Default Black-throated Trogon (Costa Rica)

    Hello every one!
I have been busy here in Costa Rica with photo and birding tours so that's why my participation has been so weak.

In my last tour I had a group that was very interested in trogons, one afternoon we got very lucky and we found this handsome trogon. In three days we were able to watch and photograph four
different trogon species including the elusive male and female resplendent quetzal! :)

    For this one I use

1D4+300f/4@f/5.6+1.4TC+SS1/50sec.+hand held+ almost FF+ minor post processing in LR, sharpened and resized in PS.

    Many thanks for looking.

Beautiful bird with very nice background, Juan Carlos. I really like the pose with the tilted head.

Beautiful bird and presentation Juan Carlos. I have to make it to Costa Rica soon. I would love to get a text book picture of a torogoz, the national bird of my country near you.

Love the pose and vertical comp. I really like the leaves in the upper and right parts of the frame. The brighter highlights in the BG at left are unfortunate IMO and could be filled-in if you are so inclined. Is the white on the upper parts of the yellow plumage burnt yellows or actually white?

Hi JC, I like the inquisitive pose with the slight head turn, and lovely green iridescence on the neck plumage. Blending in the large spots of the BG wont harm the image.

    Hello Daniel.
The white blobs on left are imposible to miss when you shoot in the rain forest, there is simply too much filtered light and yes, that could be fixed but the image would lose the tropical mood in my opinion. The whites you see above yellows are indeed white feathers. Thanks for your comment! :)

Beautiful picture of a beautiful bird in that tough rain-forest lighting. Great colors. I wish the capture angle weren't so steep, but that seems to be the case with trogon images -- at least that's been my self-critique of my limited experience with the species. It does accurately represent their habitat: above us.

Beautiful bird with nice habitat and good eye contact. I do wish the head were a little sharper though.
