    Default Fulmars

    Attached Images Attached Images

    Canon 7D
    Canon F/2.8 300mm with 1x4 iii TC
    f/11
    1/1000
    ISO 640

Captured this image of the fulmars after they arrived recently to nest on this cliff face at my local harbour in Fife, Scotland. I cropped the image to show the beautiful heads on these birds, and the difference between the male and female.

    Any advice greatly appreciated

Not too often we see these birds posted.Very nice to view.
So which is the male and female? Is the male the one on the right with the pink gular pouch?
I like the rock in the BG and the diagonal lines within and the color.
    You picked the right aperture.
I think the large crop has lead to a compromise in IQ.
The light looks very bright. Did you have to salvage the whites? I find them quite grey.

    Hi Gail

    Thanks for that Gail
I thought the male was the one on the right as well, because of the bigger head.
The morning sun was strong and the whites were very bright, and no feather detail could be seen.

Here is another version of the same birds

The second shot is wonderful Bill.
I like the IQ so much better and it just tells the story so much better.
    Well done,

Thanks for the advice Gail, it got me thinking about the background etc, so I cropped this one less.

I like this as well except would crop out the shadowed overhang in RUC that pulls the eye away. I would crop from LHS to the tall grasses and dodge the shadowed area in the rocks abovr the females head,

I agree the original was cropped to heavily image quality suffered, you have good interaction in the image and a crop as latterly suggested will make for a pleasing image.
