    Default Incoming Great Grey Owl

Recently revisited my Great Great Owl images from last season. My favorite part of this image are the trees in the BG they help to tell the story. The owls weren't easy to locate here b/c of the dense trees. We hauled all of our equipment on plastic sleds over the snow several miles to this remote location where 4 GGO's were residing. Baited. Some clean up done to the FG.

Great incoming flight shot, Marina. You mush have been sitting in the snow to get this nice low angle.

Hello Marina, beautiful bird, beautiful image. If mine I would work on removing the in focus branch on the top left side, it pulls my eye away from the owl.

You are absolutely right, Karl. Not that you mention it, I was on the ground. I had completely forgotten that. ...freezing my butt off too!

Joe: The reason the branch works for me is that it grounds the image. I try to use an element to ground my images whenever possible, also to help balance my images.

I have fond memories of that trip up north! Like the low angle and sharpness. I'm not bothered by the branch in the ULC. Maybe a bit more snow in the foreground. Let's hope this weather improves!

HI Marina - this is so awesome I like the wide composition, too. The curled wingtips are really nice, too. Great job!

Hi Marina, great work in capturing the incoming owl against the part of the BG. Love the intense concentration, and I feel the OOF trees work well. Another vote for a touch more snow FG.

Marina my eyes stay fixed on the Owl, love the lifted feathers and curled up wing tips, those eyes are certainly locked on to something, great capture.

Gorgeous image Marina. I love the background which creates more of a story for me. I also love the way his wings and tail feathers look. It is beautiful all around!

I am late to the party but I have to agree with Joe about the branch on the LHS. If you include more FG I think this would give you the grounding of the image you are looking for!
Love the trees in the BG,

    Marina,

Glad you got a chance to revisit your images from last year. Hope there's another trip around the corner (I can't get enough of these guys!).

I'm a fan of the detail in the wings here. You can tell he's slowing down by creating some flow separation over the back end of the wing, just getting ready for the "kill". Nicely captured!

Hi Marina, love this incoming pose with the trees in the BG. Personally I'd have preferred not to have the focused branch on the upper left side, but it doesn't bother me that it is there. it comes down to personal preferences. Not sure if you had any more room at the bottom, not that this crop does not work, but it might give a different perspective with room for the owl to 'fly into". TFS. Loi

Love the low flying owl and the intent stare. The bg trees add a lot to this image. A bit more to the bottom of the image would help imo. I'd also consider evicting the branch coming in from the left side of the frame.

Thank you all for your comments and advice. I think a little more snow FG would be helpful, but I have a feeling there is no more canvas. I"ll have to check though.
