This is for good night-I felt like sharing another image with you, sharpened less, no masks and no tweaks and no tricks, just a Jackal wondering about with a bag full of plans, like they say around here...

    Nikon D3S
    Nikon 500mm/F4
    ISO 400
F6.3 (well this worked until the jackal got too close, for he wanted to cross the road and we must have been in his way but these guys are so bold and so clever they know to fear only the mighty lion)

    Have a great week!

    Hi Gabriela,
nice simple frame of the Jackal.
Looks very good in PP without the tricks, Steve would say keep it simple.Nice details , contrast and colors all around, besides the blues creeping through on the back, maybe they are that coloration ?.
Those eyes are looking great. i feel the subject looks a bit squeezed into the frame , any more space ?
    i sent you a mail !!!

Ouch, it is blue indeed, Andreas!Only saw it now...Will RP soon...Replied to email, more to follow tomorrow

I just squeezed this image as he was passing by, if I remember well there is a lot of space but mostly on the RHS, and shadows and stuff. Why didn't I see the blue, I wonder?

Thank you for your help, bit late now for PP work, must be up early tomorrow, blue Monday

    Have a great week!

You know what ? My first thought about this frame was, please let the whole shadow of the jackal be in the frame , for me this would be a killer frame !!!!!!
Have fun on the blue monday, normally i am off tomorrow , but due to shortage in man power i have to go…. on the blue monday.

Chat tomorrow about the other stuff, Andre should send the details .

    Cheers Andreas

...had to post it, I kind of liked the shadows too, now maybe I can go to sleep...here's the uncropped version of Jackal...needs tweaking, but maybe tomorrow...Any other suggestions for a crop here?

I like the nice, easy trot and relaxed attitude you captured. How about a bit of an unconventional crop...crop on the left side about a third to half way to the jackal and leave all the shadow on the right side. I love how the shadow shows and elongates the already long legs. The even plain bkgd allows the jackal and shadow to stand out very well.

Gabriela, very nice portrait and details on the face and the catch light in the eyes. The crop is difficult, the shadow way too long to be included, so i took a quick crop here, but had to add some canvas on top. Not sure if you would approve such approach. TFS. Loi

Hi Gabriela - nice pov, details and sharpness in the op. Blues noted. Because you don't have the whole shadow and it looks too big to have captured in its entirety, I would go with a crop along the lines of your op. The original capture is tight at the top and it probably would have been better to go with a portrait comp in the field. You can add canvas if it is within your ethics as Loi did but he has centered the jackal more. I prefer it off to the right of the frame as you did in your op.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Hello Andreas, Nancy, Loi and Rachel!

Whew, thank you so, so much for all the feedback here Loi (so kind of you to give me this idea), you inspired me to add some canvas, here's what I came up with so far, still working on my sharpening skills, Andreas...

HI I like the repost where the jackal has more room all around especially in the front. I don't notice the blue and those things too much. There's nothing you can do about the shadow I like it just like this.

Oops! Thank you Rachel! Thought I had removed every trace...Did you mean those tyre tracks? I thought I would carry on with that pattern so that it does not look odd I even removed stones that I did not have to take out...
Ooh, I see, it must be the three little magic stones on the LHS...I shall redo this again, was a bit in a hurry to share this, I have to take a break from the computer now, it is my turn to cook tonight

    ...I'll be back

Hi Gabriela, I'll leave it with the others re colour as I'm away again, but I think the last RP works the best. Personally I think going portrait would have given you the best option, but hind sight is a wonderful thing. Nice to have the trotting motion, the open jaw and the light in the eyes. Helps to have an uncluttered BKG with no distracting elements, techs look good too.

These are naughty buggers Gabriela. Nice pose and sneaky facial expression here. My preference crop-wise is for the vertical that Loi presented.
I don't suppose you shot one with the camera turned in portrait orientation?

I like the last repost, I think it needs room with the slinky pose.

    Hello Friends,

Glad I have managed to amuse you a little with this naughty fellow!

Morkel-welcome back!!! I might have some portraits of this chap, not sure. I certainly have portraits of other "naughty buggers" like him...One is called Snitzel and the other Pretzel (LOL). Not because I fed them, but because that's what we were busy munching on inside the vehicle when the sighting occured
