Nice details throughout the bird. I prefer to have a bit more room on the left.

    Douglas,

Neat capture here with the calling pose. Nice detail throughout and great exposure for this dark bird.

I'd agree with Raymond about giving the Oystercatcher just a bit more room to call into. I'd also consider either a crop from the right or a possible clone to remove the foot. It just looks a bit out of place. Maybe if you can show the rest of the leg it may be a bit more impactful.

Hi Douglas, excellent exposure on the darker plumage, the detail shows up nicely. ( the reds are slightly hot on the beak ) Before reading Miguel's comment regarding the comp, I had the same idea. Here is my version where Ive added canvas to the left, and come in from the right. Ive tried a vertical which also works with just having the head and beak.

Excellent image. Great colors, nice details in blacks and browns. Love the open beak and eye.

Terrific job with the detail in all these beautiful dark colors. I like the original crop, makes me think the oystercatcher is really in a hurry to get someplace and it is just blasting through the frame.

I like both versions but I think the original with added canvas to the left would work just as well.
    Great looking portrait.

I was having fun with the crop esp. with the foot from nowhere. Here is the whole uncropped image. Thanks you/all.

Hi - I actually like the last post with the whole image especially with the mussels in the foreground. I really like the little raised foot.

The OP has a great deal of punch, a real "catcher" of an image and I like the un-cropped image just as much. Great exposure and superb pose, congratulations!

    Kind regards,
