Default Big Horn Sheep in Jasper

Hi and hello, you are all lazy…….. me not.
So i throw in another frame , too many heads at the moment .

Took this image of the downhill running lamb close to the town of Jasper, came a bit late because most of the herd was already at the base of that hill.So i quickly grabbed the cam and fired a couple of shots.

    Canon EOS 1Dx
    EF 100-400 IS L at 220 mm
    HH
    F 8 ; Iso 800 ; 1/1250 sec

Processed in Photo Ninja and PS CC ; used again as in another frame i posted here ( think it was my last IOTW) the LAB color move .The colors were so boring in the rocks all the same tonality and hue, so i decided to bring some color life into them, WDYT?

Cropped for comp , cut off from LHS and RHS to get a more or less diagonal line where the subject enter and leave the frame.

Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. Cheers Andreas

Hi Andreas - I like it but it is a little contrasty for me (but you knew I would say that). Nice sharpness and action. If it were mine I would open up the midtones a little. I keep looking and wondering if is needs some ccw rotation. I feel like the shale/slate layers should be straighter. I could be wrong scientifically but it's just a perception thing.

    TFS,
    Rachel

    Hi Abdreas

I like the diagonal comp and the fact that you have caught the front feet in the air. This adds a little drama to me as the sheep is obviously running down a very steep cliff, as only they can. I like all the detail in the rocks, but I too think they are a bit contrasty, stealing the eye a little.. I'm ok with the rotation..

    regards

    DON

    THanks to Rachel;Gabriela and Don.
Appreciate all your comments and thoughts.
Rachel and Don thought about the overall contrast and mid tone , i tweaked it a bit , i like it a wee better than OP , as OP was a bit dark overall for a sunny afternoon. Thanks for pointing this out.
Re ccw rotation - i do not see a reason for a rotation Rachel , just a perception thing .So i leave it.

    Cheers Andreas

Hi Andreas, I like this a lot!

Try flipping it left to right and add a basic mid tone layer to the subject.

    Thanks Steve,
actually i , as you know, i never flip my images . I do see never a point to do so……………….
But i did it just for you and others.
I still do not see a reason . It is just other way round………….. nothing else , at least for me.
Maybe you can tell me , your reason why this look better ………… but please do not say , you just like it more….. then i am kind of disappointed.LOL.

    Cheers Andreas

    Hi Andreas

Techs are spot on, the blurred front feet shows fast movement.

The rock face is just too busy for me, makes me dizzy..
    Regards

    Andre.

I still do not see a reason
To me it 'sits' better overall, and more pleasing to the eye coming in from the right, plus it's an old advertising habit I have, about items coming in from the right. RH pages of a magazine also used to command more money, think about it, how do you flick through a magazine and if you stop, why? is it the headline or an interesting image?

Will try, maybe it is going on under the hood ………..
Read about sales strategies in Supermarkets ,placing all the expensive stuff on the right side shelfs ? Is that true ?

Who knows, I never got involved with Retail, although we did work for M&S for a while , eer I think we are now going 'off topic'.

Fun to watch how effortlessly they navigate their way on these cliff faces isn't it. You captured that well with this one. I saw you didn't want to rotate this one but I think if you leveled it using the grayish band of rocks above and in front of the sheep as a reference, you would still retain the feel of the animal coming down the steep cliff face and maybe remove the initial reaction of the viewer to straighten it out. A slight touch of blurring or contrast reduction on the BG rocks also helps for me.
