    Default Desert Coyotes

I was lucky enough to get up before sunrise in the Baja Desert and catch
these guys feeding on a Dolphin Carcass in a small beach cove.
They seem to thrive in the desert with no water within hundreds of miles
    that anyone knows about.
    Amazing creatures…..

Hi Dan - interesting to see how these coyotes have adapted to life in the desert. I like the overall comp but find the oof area along the bottom very distracting. It also seems like the sharpest area is the body of the coyote with its head down in the carcass. If the focal point was on the one making eye contact then perhaps a bit more selective sharpening.

So wonderful to see such variety on BPN/ Wildlife, I have never seen a Desert Coyote before and really enjoyed viewing this, Dan.

I guess there is not much you can do about the OOF area at the bottom of the image, but I would like the Coyote's face (the one looking right at you) to be a tad sharper. Interesting capture, and I hope you have more on these guys, I will look out for your future posts!

    Kind regards,

    Hi Dan,
is this a subspecies of a Coyote ? Or just a Coyote that lives in the desert areas ?
Doesn`t matter good to see new stuff. Interesting behavior shot , taking the issues aside, which are already covered by Rachel and Gabriela.

Interesting shot. Bet there's not too many coyote eating dolphin carcass shots out there. A good example of the range and adaptability of the species.

Very interesting, great behaviour captured. I don't mind the OOF FG, but do agree the sharpness on the one that matters (giving the eye contact) isn't there, perhaps f8 would have been a better call, ISO would have been about 2500 which is well manageable with the D800?
