    Default Merlin

Lucky shot! My dogs were barking and I opened the window to shut them up when I see the Merlin coming flying towards my window and perched right above me on a tree. I quickly ran outside and managed to get a few photos before it flew off. First time I have ever managed to get close to one here. They like the Kestrels are very shy.

This was taken right before sunset with an overcast sky hence the white background. The f2.8 really paid off here. A bit of a large crop.

PS. Im guessing the victim was a Bananquit chick.

great eye contact, the prey and its dangling feet is a big plus. Good high-key exposure too

It may have been lucky, but it is very well done, nice and sharp and with food!

You have to have a bit of luck sometimes, bird looks very sharp and well exposed, prey is icing on the cake.

Nice image. Amazing how being in the right place at the right time leads to some of the best images.

Well done! Love the pose with prey. The BIG eyes and focus on them are superb.

Hi this is really nice. The exposure, eye contact and having the prey is amazing, too.

Love the symmetry and great eye contact. The high-key look and minimalist perch allow you to focus all attention on bird and prey. I might sharpen the feathers on the head a little more.
