    Default Gannet landing

    Attached Images Attached Images

An Australasian Gannet landing at the Muriwai Gannet colony in NZ.
The viewing platform is much higher than the colony, so direct eye contact is unfortunately not possible for landing shots.

    Canon 1D4, 500mm
    1/1600, f6.3, ISO 160
    HH, manual.

Do you find the dark, rough sea bg interesting or distracting?
    All feedback appreciated.
    Thanks.

A nice subject. I like the almost monocromatic mood of the image and the open wings with so nice details.

Love the pose and the killer BKGR. What were you doing in NZ???? Did you get to see any penguins?

Sidharth, I find the background both distracting (a little) and interesting (a lot). Knowing that it is rough seas, it provides a great setting for your shot. I like the sharpness of the shot, and those wonderful webbed feet with the green lines. I photographed them on Bonaventure Island a year ago, and loved every minute of the experience.

Thanks, Artie. Family vacation (where I was able to sneak out for a couple of bird photography sessions). No penguins this time; we spent all our time on North Island. We saw 3 penguin species when we toured the South Island a couple years ago.

Cool landing pose Sid. Sure dose have a neat monotone look to it and I like the splash of color in the head. The overhead POV is unique and the exposure and detail look great. Nice capture.
Keep em coming from your trip.

I love the bird and the unique POV.
I do find the BG distracting but once I knew it was the ocean it felt better to the eye.
The IQ on the bird is excellent.
Hope to see more brtds from NZ. We don't get that many posted on BPN
