    Default Mule Deer

Still winter up here in the Colorado mountains! Photographed these Mule Deer through an open window. There is a small herd that passes through every few days to raid the bird feeders and munch on the few bushes I have. A few seem to be hoping to train us into putting out more birdseed on demand !

I removed a few blurred twigs & branches.

    Hi Nancy

Very sharp and crisp image.. I like the snow sprinkled over the coat, the 'pleading' stare and the fact that the whites dont burn your eyes to look at them. Well done. I think the image would be stronger without the 2nd OOF deer as I find that stealing my eye somewhat, however I understand finding one deer by itself is a bit like eating just one chocolate... hard to do.

    Hi Nancy

I like the eye-contact and the second deer behind looking on inquisitively.

Image crisp, well exposed with no blown highlights and heaps of detail in darks.

Fallen snow on coarse fur creates a special effect.

I would have given a bit more space on LHS to include back ear.

Hi Nancy - Nice eye contact, detail and sharpness. Good choice on dof. The snow really adds to the image. While I like the way the deer in the back is sort of looking around the main subject to see you, I too wish that you had the whole ear. I also wish the rear leg of the back deer wasn't merging with the body of the main subject.

    Hello Nancy,

It seems to me that the deer was trying to hypnotise you This is a beauty, and I am so sorry you could not fit the ear of the second deer in, I would clone it in somehow! Great detail and sharpness and very well exposed, a very attractive image, TFS!

    Kind regards,

    Hi Nancy ,
love this . Really great shot and so cute looking those two.
If there could be just that ear in …….. but that`s life.
Would back off on the blacks a fraction in the real dark parts.ON RHS as viewed there is a area that is pure white and detail less ?

Well done besides the small nits.

Thanks all for the feedback! I would love to have that bit of ear on the back deer. I must look at my other images from the series and see what I can find to "build" an ear. Andreas, are you talking about those vague shapes on the right side just over the back of the deer? I think those are distant evergreen trees much obscured by the snow.

Nancy, the crisp detail, cool vibe and in-your-face comp here make it for me.
I do agree with the finer compositional critiques given above, but by no means does it make this less special.

Hi Nancy, great to think they are happy to get so close.

The tight crop and inquisitive look works, although the clipped ear is a shame. Blacks look OK, but I'm using the laptop, likewise the techs look good. Detail/clarity seems again OK, but I do think the best IQ has been from the 7D which is surprising. The snowy scene adds greatly to the overall image.
