    Default Algonquin Park Gray Jay.

No visit to Algonquin Park is complete without the sighting of these famously tame birds of the spruce forests. Sort of like a Blue Jay-sized chickadee, they will come and feed in your hand when handouts such as peanuts are offered.

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/400s., f/9, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, setup perch with shelled peanuts underneath, small crop for comp, eye work including darkening of pupil and dodging of iris as these guys' eyes are often very "glassy", NR to BG.

Beautiful bird, pose, BKGR, and EXP. Were you on the same level as the bird or slightly below it? And cute!

He looks so small. Many shades of gray exposed well with a sweet BG.

Very nice capture Daniel. I like the shooting angle in this one and the pose with the loose feathers looks great. The feather detail, the exposure and the smooth BG make for a beautiful frame. Like the comp too.

I like the pose, perch, details, exposure, sharpness and BG. Is that little piece of wood protruding from the lower belly the end of your perch? Excellent image Daniel!

    Thanks a bunch guys!

Artie, I was just about eye level here, with the perch about four feet off the ground (planted in a snowbank) and me crouching down a bit. Jim, that is indeed the tip of the perch protruding through the belly's feathers

Thanks Dan. Good eye by Holger! The facing away pose makes it appear as if the bird were a foot or so above you. IAC, a very loverly image.
