Beautiful, Rachel! Nice, intimidating look and as clear as crystal! Pity about the grasses in the front, but these cats don't allow us to clear the environment first, do they?
BTW I envy you - ironically I'd probably never be as fortunate as to visit Timbavati as it's unaffordable to us guys paying with SA currency!

This is one very special sighting Rachel! Just how long were you going to keep this from us?
Your techs are great - as usual
- and this girl is sharp where needs be. I have no problem with the grasses, they seem to almost frame the subject's face, therefore leading the eye of the viewer to that intent stare. Hmmm... she's not that young, she is experienced, powerful, ears slightly tilted back, slightly alert- I love this, great work, you captured that which I admire so much about this species: they are intelligent, unafraid, untameable, wild and wonderful and so elusive. Brilliant work!
Warmest regards,

Hi Rachel
Love the eye contact, a lower angle would have moved this up a few notches.
Hindsight is always the best, but if you could push ISO to 1000 and f6.3, the back of head and top of ears would have been sharper.
The grass stalks are at the correct angles to add to this image, creating almost a " broken mirror" look.
I like...

Powerful eye contact, looking up at you but not raising her head! Almost immobilizes you! Great details and sharpness from nose to whiskers to eyes and a bit beyond. I like the grasses in the foreground as they mimic the angles of her whiskers, as well as providing a subtle framing. This is spectacular and must have been so exciting!

Rachel it must be great looking through your viewfinder at a magnificent animal such as this, your image really does do it justice, excellent.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments. Andre - I agree a little more dof would have been preferred but the light was already a little low and the 7D isn't great in low light and high ISO.
Thanks again,
Rachel

Hi Rachel, You have excellent details and sharpness here, so not sure what you would gain by pushing ISO a little more. A very good portrait in soft light. I'm not that good with color cast, but I see a little Red cast, you would know it better I'm sure. For me the comp is a bit tight at the top and bottom, wonder if you have more room. TFS. Loi

Rachel, this is fantastic. I like the eye contact, the sharpness and detail is top notch esp given the 7D IQ. The DOF is OK as it nicely emphasises the eyes. TFS.

Nice one Rachel - though I'm tempted to suggest cropping closer all around her face if this is FF? That's where the interest lies for me.
I can't comment on colour/exposure accurately as I'm away - but it does look slightly "dull"?

Lovely Leo image Rachel.I like the colors and the very good tonal range you have processed , but agree with Morkel about looking a bit dull .Would leave the comp as is.Good detail and sharp where it counts, so the 7D , if used carefully is not as bad as some folks say .
NIce work.

Rachel, beautiful image of my favorite species of cats. Really nothing to fault from my side, I may have tried to up the exposure just a tad. Timbavati is certainly a haven for fantastic. leopard sightings. Very nice work, well done!

Hi Rachel, nice looking cat. I would go tighter, perhaps square making the cropped paw more of a discussion and cropping out the grass stems RHS, distracting for me.
