    Default Raining in the rain

    Hello,

last week we made a trip to the Dutch coast. Zeeland. There is a very new well build bird observation hut. It stands really near at the pond and the openings for children are ideal to photograph with a beanbag on eye level with the ducks, geese and shore bird.

I shot this picture while a rain shower. It shows a Egyptian Goose (Alopochen egyptiacus). I titled it Raining in the rain. Hope you like it.

Nice low POV capture of the wing action. I find the whites in the background a bit distracting. The image also needs CCW rotation.

    Hello,
I thought the same when I viewed the image in post. But it is just the effect of the reflections in the waves. When referring to the reed bush in the background the line is even ...
The whites in the background are ducks and a plastic bag. It is an sensitive area so nobody is allowed to get in there.

Lovely capture and I really like the feel of this one. It does need to have the horizon leveled as pointed out above. I agree on the white blubs in the BG being a bit distracting but I still find the image appealing and unique. I think I would sharpen the head a little more. It would help to include your equipment and settings so we could give you critiques based upon the settings you used as well.

I still feel that the horizon line is ok, but I get the feeling you're right. The waves come diagonal and I had an water level on my camera and it was lying on a bean bag. I take a look at it later on my computer.

My setting: D7100, AF-S 500mm 1:4D I & Kenko TC 1.4x, 700mm, f8, 1/500s, +0.7ev, spot metering, image is not cropped. Shot in aperture priority. White balance setting cloudy.

    Cheers

Very nice wingflap pose here, very dynamic, and I love the flying water drops. Nice low angle and separation of the subject from the background. I agree with rotation and about the white spots in the BG. I also feel the image may be a little too yellow - you could try a version with the white balance cooled down a tad.

    Welcome to BPN!!

Very nice action caught! It sounds like a great place to shoot! The "horizon," as the viewer sees one, is definitely off. Even if it is an artificial line from waves at an angle, it should be straightened to remove tension in the image.

There is also a yellow cast, as Daniel pointed out. The camera's color temp setting can't be relied on -- it's only a guess and often not a good one.

You don't say what your processing is, but if it's a Raw capture, the white balance adjustment is easy to tweak for comparison of what looks right.

The blobs in the BG could be toned down with careful cloning.

We hope to see more of your work!

Hello you all, thank you for the constructive critique. The white balance wasn't set correctly. And the image had to be rotated. I oriented on the bush in the background and thought it is OK. But naaaah. This version looks much better to me. The white is white and the Goose stands on the right level!
I will not clone out the blobs. They belong to the nature there. It are the bottom of a Greylag Goose and it is a male Mallard Duck. The white blob on the left is a plastic bag. But you can't go out in this sensitive places or better bird reserves and stroll around like you want to.
    I shoot RAW.

Who is interested can find an image of the hut on my server following this link: http://www.left-eyed-focus.de/huette.png

The new edit of my image attached:

It is indeed a very nice place. I attached an link to my post there you can see the observation hut in front. They dug it in the ground that you hips are at water level. When sitting inside at the ground level windows, there are banks to sit on. There show up many species. It is always worth a trip.

The new processing is what I had in mind -- good work! I hope you are able to shoot here often.
