Captive Black Rhino that my wife helps take care of at the Portland Zoo.
A 4 year old female. My wife was calling her, thus the erect ears.
I just like the weathered wrinkled hide.
She just recently got so agitated she rammed the walls and broke off her horn right to the surface of her nose.
    Captivity has real drawbacks……...

Hi Dan - Nice look at the black rhino and it could be in a dry riverbed setting. I like the comp and the eating pose. I think you could give it a boost in curves and bring out even more of that detail in the hide. There's some blue coming in in the area behind the ear. Minor tweaks will take this one up a notch. I hope she doesn't hurt herself.

    Hi Dan,
like the colors , the overall comp and the shrub in the mouth. The artificial BG looks really nice for a Zoo image, could be somewhere in the field.
i am curious asking did you blur the BG ? because the blurring looks to sharp around the edges of the subject .Like wise on LHS as viewed in the rhino , the area looks like there is motion blur , from slow SS , to make it pin sharp ?

Good suggestion made by Rachel to get more depth into the rhino , if you like ?

Sad to hear about her frustrations and injuries! If things continue like they are now, zoos and highly protected small fenced areas will be the only safe places left for them. 149 poached in SA already in 2014, on the back of 1000+ poached in 2013...

I'd crop tighter from top and LHS? How is head sharpness at 100% view - there seems a slight element of motion blur as viewed?
