Thanks to the theme of this month, I was able to rescue this image from the trash bin with some heavy cropping.

    5D3
    70-300L f4/5.6 @ 81mm
    1/200
    F11
    ISO-400
    Cropped to 33% of FF
    Handheld

The original image had a patch of boring white sky above the elephant and I couldn't really make it work.

    Thank you for your comments.

With their magnificent tones and textures, elephant heads just cry out for close ups.
The exposure and detail look great but, for me at least, it lacks that little extra somthing to lift it out of the ordinary. A bit of colour in the eye perhaps, or a different crop. This missing top of the head bugs me.

    Hi Loi,

details look good, but could look better I took it in PS lifted the lights a tad, added a bit mid tones also in levels, brightened the eye as well. Looks much better. With the crop, I think that's fine.
    Have a great day

    Hi Loi,
the comp is working in this case , elephant in greens …..
Image could stand some more tonal tweaks as per Anette, i think. Plus i would suggest to tweak the elephant in mid tone contrast , because it looks lost in all the same tones that the image is carrying. What i mean is , make the Elephant pop from its surrounding.

Hi Loi - I'm glad you are enjoying this month's theme. Keep them coming. I think the comp works and agree with the suggestions made above to give it lift. Also maybe a touch more sharpening.

I see the flatness and dark tone of the image now. Here is a repost:

    1) Adding more mid tones with Levels

    2) Applied more contrast to the elephant

    3) brightened the eye a little

    4) more shapren.

Thank you Anette, Martin, Andreas, and Rachel. You guys are great!

Hi Loi, good detail, sharpness & definition in this. Not wild about the crop, but I think it works based on the parameters you had.

Not sure if this is pushed a little too much?
