    Default Evening Grosbeak (male) II.

This species is such a beautiful splash of colour on an otherwise grey winter morning! Lots of fun setting up near a feeder with a flock of about thirty of these guys and gals coming and going. My first instinct was to remove the faint branches in the upper part of the frame, but after taking a few steps back and a few breathers I decided they looked good there and so they remain (honest opinions about them appreciated though!)

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/250s., f/6.3, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, just about FF (a sliver taken off left and bottom), darkened pupil , 5-6 snowflakes removed via "spot removal tool" as they did not add to the image.

Nice capture but I would probably remove the branches but I tend to do things other people do not do.

I like the open beak, sharpness, details, exposure, pose and composition. I would remove the OOF branches but that is personal choice. Excellent image Daniel!

Really nice pose! Love that open beak as if saying hi to you. I'm ok with leaving the way it is. Removing the OOF branches is ideal though as most of the empty space is free of OOF branches.

This has a very nice mood, it feel wintry.
Leave the branches, I think a bit looser crop would look nice for me.

Killer IQ, perfect DOF and comp. Open beak is a big bonus.
Love the wintery feel and the painterly bg.
This is one handsome bird and you'd done him justice.

Great handholding, looking at that shutter speed, quite remarkable focus, sharpness. Great lookback pose. I like it as is.

Great shot Dan and most definitely leave the ghostly branches other wise it would look to bland, I also like the hint of red at the base. As you might have guessed I am currently off monochromatic totally bland backgrounds. The plumage detail is great, the sideways glance and open bill make for a great pose.

A beautiful shot and Bird Daniel. I like the B/g as is looks like marbling to me. Also an nice example of how you can get such a clean shot at this shutter speed.

Very nice, again. I really liked the last one and this one looks great too. You must be pretty darn close because the feather detail is awesome. The open beak on this one adds to the image. Another vote to remove the branches.

Surely one of the best images I've seen of this species to date. The light quality is just so refined....great winter light. The facial expression is really sweet feature to the image. Yummy background. Image rocks on all levels.
