This species is such a beautiful splash of colour on an otherwise grey winter morning! Lots of fun setting up near a feeder with a flock of about thirty of these guys and gals coming and going. My first instinct was to remove the faint branches in the upper part of the frame, but after taking a few steps back and a few breathers I decided they looked good there and so they remain (honest opinions about them appreciated though!)
Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/250s., f/6.3, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, just about FF (a sliver taken off left and bottom), darkened pupil , 5-6 snowflakes removed via "spot removal tool" as they did not add to the image.
