    Default Red Fox Sunset Profile

    HI -

A closeup of one of the Red Foxes I photographed at a state park in NJ last month. I was kneeling on the ground, hand-holding with my elbows tucked in tight to my body. I was waiting for the fox to turn into the setting sun and I captured a few shots like this.

I cropped just a little bit off the left-hand side. My goal was to try to fill the frame with the fox and her body fur as the background. I didn't do too much else to this photo but add a little saturation and a USM.

Please let me know what you think.

    Equipment:
    Canon EOS 7D
Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II USM

Sharp, good EXP and a nice animal and light. What's up with the animal's eye? I am not familiar with foxes but the eye seems a bit odd....

    Hi -

My Dad says that mammals have a third eyelid which is like a nictating membrane in birds. Maybe I caught the membrane closing half-way. Here's a closeup of it. I'll check to see if one of my other photos was with the eye totally open.

Hi Ashleigh - This works really well. Good choice on having the fox's own body as the bg. As Artie said, sharp with nice light and properly exposed. I think this is one of your best posted so far and am looking forward to more. Thanks for participating in this month's theme too.

    TFS,
    Rachel

Thanks. Our old men can be pretty smart sometimes; if only we realized that when we were growing up.... :)

Ashleigh, I agree with the above comments. I especially like the snow on the fox's nose. Well seen & captured. TFS

Hi Ashleigh, great job in filling up the frame with the fox. Agreed with the comments above. I noticed your image displayed a little small, so I brought it into CS6 to check. the dimensions are 800X534. You should have saved it at 1200X800 as it will look even better. If you work with CS6, go to Image tab and choose Image size. This is where you can choose resolution (96) and the dimensions. TFS. Loi

    Hi LOI,

thanks. I made the image smaller to fit it under 400kb. But ill go back to my TIFF original and try it at 1200 with a lower resolution and maybe that will be better. The TIFF was 300 that I saved the .jpg. Ill read the sticky again, sorry and thank you :-)

I love the effect of the lines on the body that appear to radiate from the face. This really adds emphasis to the face. Excellent side view of the face with dramatic lighting. These foxes have been good to you!

Excellent job capturing the beauty of the fox -- and more so in your composition of the final image. Well-done !

Hi Ashleigh, doesn't get much better.

I would suggest you drop the kb to say 300 when you optimise, you won't have any issues re size then.

This works well Ashleigh! Love that it's "all fox" in the frame.
Very interesting about the eye too...
