The end of the day provided some nice pastel colours in the sky as a backdrop to this beautiful Snowy Owl perched atop a weathered fence post.

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/250s., f/4, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, FF, pished to get the head-on stare.

All your images stand out to me and have a certain unique quality, care and attention. This image is no exception. Great use of the light, bg, and perch to make a wonderful eye catching shot.

Daniel, love the expression, eye contact, and the multi-color BG, not so crazy about the perch, would suggest you crop a wee bit off the bottom to minimize the impact of the barbed wire. I already miss Ottawa. Loi

I quite like the rusty charm of the wire, gives a sense of location, but i know some prefer the more natural perch.

Daniel, this is simply beautiful. Love everything about it. Cropping is very subjective but I'll add my 2cw here- Take a little off the top so that the pink becomes the upper color band and just enough off the bottom as to barely hide your name (this will leave two loops and the thinnest upper edge of the 3rd loop of wire-) I feel the wire is a good color match with spots on the bird and acts as a supportive element on the post. Again, a gorgeous capture you have here.

Perfect in all regards! The rusty colour of the wire matches the brownish feathers quite nicely! Brilliant BG!

Beautiful shot Daniel, if thats what you can do with a Canon 7D, I will be happy to hold onto my 7D, and hopefully create amazing images like this someday

    This is terrific Daniel.
I love the BG and personally love the rusty wire. It has a nice curve to it.
    Exposed perfectly.
I might take a sliver off the top to the pink layer,
    Gail

Lovely as usual. Ashleigh's comments nailed it. Your images are characterized by a thoughtful approach that elevates the artistic element without any compromise in the technics. In this one, I like the comp just as is, and the sweet light and bg. The wire is fine with me. For some reason Snowies seem to have an affinity for "hand-of-man" perches.

This is one of the prettiest Snowies I've seen this year, Daniel.

I like the suggestion to crop from the top to make the pink band the ceiling color.

The perch works like a charm for me. The harshness of the barbed wire adjacent to the delicate Snowy, one with so much gentle personality, is the perfect counter-poise for dramatic creative tension.

Oh, and did I mention the beautiful light and perfect exposure ?

Hi Dan, you certainly got the eye contact you set out to capture with your 'pishing', and overall captured in lovely soft light, as shown in the BG sky. Im fine with the post, as its weathered nicely. I would have maybe cropped just above the wire.

Pose, face, BG are perfect. I like the barbed wire...not only does it add a "balance element" to the image... it shows a reason why the post it there.
A sliver off the top might be nice, as others above have mentioned.

Wonderful BG with excellent IQ & HA. Personally I like the composition as it is.
