    Default Wind swept Coot

During the first few days in Cape Town during my december holidays, the wind was blowing fairly hard. At this wetlands, the wind swept across the water, causing rough water, and irritated subjects. I do realise the coot is angled slightly away from me, but the 'focus' is on the ruffled feathers. This coot was surely having a bad afternoon feather day. Taken late afternoon.

Nice capture Stuart, the feather detail is really good, and it wouldn't be easy hand holding the camera and lens on such a windy day. Well done

Nice capture Stuart. Love the detail in the feathers and the light hit the coot perfectly as there arent any shadows on it. Looks like its having quite a time in that strong wind. Wish our Coots had that nice red comb. Well done.

Lovely shot Stu, I like the red comb very impressive. The feathers look very good indeed, the bill may improve if the highlights were brought down a little.... I think (??)

Now that is quite the windswept plumage! Neat to see the feet under the water too. I agree with observation about body angle (both pro and con).

I love SA coots. Is this a red knobed coot?
I really like the ruffled feathers and the visible detail.
IQ is excellent and I am OK with the body position.
Actually, to my eye it looks like the neck is angled away but the head is slightly turned towards us.
I really like the visible feet and the tail that is just above the water.
No one else has mentioned this, but I feel this needs a bit of CW rotation.

I don't know about rotation, maybe he's leaning because of the wind? Love it, Stu. In fact, I laughed when I opened it up...he's so messed up . A fun image to view.

I love birds with ruffled feathers. The low angle works good for me. Exposure control, details and colors are great. Well done, Stuart.

Exquisite IQ with great details in the dark feathers. Love the water colors and the wild pose and the flying droplets. Love seeing the foot through the water. When all else is this good, HA can take a hike! :)
    Nicely done Stu.
