Default Theme: Phoebe in the Snow

I made this photo after a snow in 2010 or 2011. I had used Pixel Bender Oil Paint on it. Today I added a SnapArt stylize wavy lines filter at very low opacity and a Doug Landreth texture and an edge texture at 50% opacity. I masked the texture off the bird a bit.

There are a lot of good things about this image -- the color (especially how it varies in the background), those curly branches and how they contrast with the alert posture of the bird, and the look you achieved with the processing. Very nice.

Thanks for mentioning Doug Landreth. Photomorphis looks like an interesting place to visit.

Thanks Dennis. I got a coupon from Doug probably just from visiting or maybe I signed up for a newsletter a good while back, but just got the discount coupon a couple of weeks ago so I ordered his bundle no 1 I think with 3 sets of textures in it. He does presets for Perfect Effects and has tutorials on their site. I also saw a presentation he did at creativelive.com. BTW this is Photoshop Week there with 11 presenters and 40 sessions. Starts daily at 11 AM Pacific time. I watched both days although some was included in some I'd already seen but I learned a lot about Smart Objects today from Dave Cross. Check it out! The schedule should be on the Photoshop Week page.

This is lovely Judy, I echo the comments by Dennis, and the only suggestion I could make is to take that one straight branch below the birds' tail and liquefy it to make it more organic and in keep with the rest of the branches. I looked up Doug Landreth, and he has some very nice textures. I have decided I will try and make my own.......... Thanks for the link.

This has a lovely, serene feel with the soft colors and well-placed soft lighting. I really like what the wavy lines did to the background and branches, adding a softness. All the elements are well placed with a graceful simplicity. Thanks for the extra info on the textures, etc.

Hi, Judy, one of my favorite color combinations are browns and blues so I love the image. Also the textures in the background are very nice. I could see a crop from the bottom also to just below the second v on the left branch but it's lovely the way it is. Thanks for the info and the textures and the Photoshop Week - I haven't had time to check it out yet.

Nice painterly look to this one Judy, and I love the little phoebe. I like this color set too, very relaxing and serene. I like Jackie's idea for that one branch.

Thanks everyone! I'll try to implement Jackie's suggestions when I have time. Watching PS Week at creativelive.com all day every day this week is about all of the computer chair I can take! Great lessons though.

I tweaked some of the branches that were straight. Thanks for the suggestion Jackie!

What a busy forum. I don't visit for a few days, and I'm way behind! I love this composition, colors, elements, and the winter feel to it. I like the curved branch in the second post. What do you think about making the catchlight in the eye just a tad brighter/whiter/

Thanks Anita. I actually did brighten the catchlight once but possibly the texture I added later removed most of it. Good suggestion but I probably won't get around to it now.
