    Default Golden-fronted Woodpecker

Here's one more WP from Belize. Unlike the depiction in Sibley, this one is a female of the "leei" race of Golden-fronted, according to my Birds of Mexico and Central America (Van Perlo). It is almost indistinguishable from our Red-bellied, except for the all-white rump. After a number of rainy days on our trip, the early-morning tropical light was getting pretty harsh by the time we spotted this lass. C&C appreciated.

This is really nice Bill. I like the IQ and the colors in the BG.
You have a perfect head turn and the eye looks great. I like the amount of space you left around the woodpecker.
You have exposed this perfectly and I wouldn't have noticed the Slight harshness of the light if you had not mentioned it.

    Gorgeous Bill, killer BKG!

Perhaps a little off the top to give a bit more 'space' ratio, but no deal breaker.

Excellent image Bill and the harsh light mentioned was not spoiled the image. I like the pose and IQ.

Stunning IQ in such harsh light Bill. Like your framing, BG, and the visible hole she has started to open in the tree. Love how she uses her tail to help in bracing against tree.

Awesome shot of a bird I hope to get one day, looks just like a red-bellied but that tail is pitch black and it's in Belize so I take your word on golden fronted, the eye contact is great, as mentioned above I would have never noticed the harsh lighting, the picture drew my attention to the bird only, fill flashed worked great. I also love that 'she' has appeared to be working on that tree for awhile with all the holes in the picture

Hi Bill, the light looks fine to me, as the IQ is great. Great eye, and with good feather detail showing. Killer BG too.

You sure are getting a nice collection of WP shots. Despite the harsh light this shot looks great. Nice exposure and details and I like the classic pose. Well done

Good looking subject, and you have an awesome marbled BG here. Neat tree perch. Although your use of fill flash was good I still wish for better light angle to fully light the bird's side and feet.

I agree, Daniel. I worked my way as far left as I could without falling down a steep embankment, while my wife was saying "Get out of the underbrush; there may be snakes in there." And the guide was asking "What kind of insurance does he have?"

Beautiful image Bill, nice light, color and detail. Very similar to the Red-bellied I find in Florida.
