Settings are a bit wonky because I was doing a closeup of an eagle on the ice when I spotted this guy coming in after the eagle I was shooting. The eagle on the ice was only partially in the frame on the RHS so I cropped him out. I am also surprised the eagle is sharp because of my slow shutter speed ( I must have been panning correctly).
PP: Crop ~ 60%FF, NR to BG, levels, cloned out an OOF eagle in the BG above the eagles' head, DE at 3% and USM to JPEG

Real nice one Gail. I wonder about cropping off the bottom, just to where
    the darker blue kicks in.

Wonderful post, the intense look and talons forward tells a story that could have many endings. Nice capture Gail.

Great pose, excellent IQ, Gail. I was wondering of cloning out the OOF rock from the top. It could make the image more powerful, more clean.

Another vote for eliminating the rocks in the BG.
A pretty intense look, even for Eagles……
    The panning effect is perfect.

Hi Gail, the BE certainly is sharp, and well exposed too. I like the extended legs showing those fierce talons, and in a perfect world I wish the top part of the BG was ice. How we always strive for that perfect image each time.

Just wonderful Gail. You captured the full posture of an air brake. Love the expression and intensity in the Eagles eye.

Amazing detail lovely action. I wonder if you did much work on the eye? I only ask because it is so well delineated. ( I am probably just envious!)

Beautiful capture Gail...I would eliminate the rocks in the background too to focus all of our attention on this great incoming pose. Very nice work!!!

Great pose, sharpness, exposure, details and view of the talons. Another vote for eliminating the OOF rocks. Very well done Gail!

You know how I love included habitat. But after giving this a few looks, I'm torn about those rocks. They don't add much, and the pose is so wonderful that not much else is needed to pull this one together, but to eliminate them puts the bird really close to the top. Very undecided!

Gail - another outstanding eagle shot with a dynamic incoming pose. Your panning worked well. I don't mind the rocks but it would probably look better without them.

Ooh this is awesome I love it just the way it is. If you cropped out the rocks you wouldn't have enough room above the bird I think.

Outstanding. I love the picture, and Geoffrey's comment about the 'air brake' in my opinion describes this image perfectly. very quickly removed the rocks with content aware and cropped off some of the bottom of the image.

Thank you all for your great advice.

    David,
Thank you for taking the time to redo the image. I agree it looks better without the rocks.

What a killer pose! Love the concentrated stare and the wing and feet positions. Exposure and details look great as usual and I like the good look at the wide open eye. The repost is better IMO. Awesome capture Gail

Based on your excellent, helpful comments I have cloned out the rocks and cropped a bit off the bottom.

Amazing pose and excellent comp, Gail. RP looks great, but I honestly didn't mind the rocks at all - they gave a nice sense of place I thought. I could go either way.

This image rocks, Gail, with or without the rocks. It's 2 completely different images and I like them both very much. There is an intensity to this image.
