Picky point, but I do not like the white border you used here.
You caught the eye nicely, you must have got as low as you could?
    Water pattern is nice…..

Wonderful light, a clean shot with smooth water. The red eye is a point of interest for this bird, I feel you've brought it out perfectly. Shadows seem a little deep, notably the head. Perhaps a bit of a crop on the right, the frame looks bisected. (unless this area is reserved for text).

Very nice light & IQ. I love that red eye. As Dan's mentioned, not your usual excellent POV, but still works very well.

    Sweet little thing.
The eye is awesome and you are right about the light!
Are the blacks as opened up as much as can be? If not, I would try a little DE in those areas.

Spectacular image with beautiful IQ, lights, colors, details and water. Love the red eye, water droplets on feathers and reflection.

I like the light, pose, detail and that wonderful red eye! If only we can see this little guy in about 3 months.

Thanks everyone. Appreciate your thoughts. Regarding shooting angle, this was taken in a small channel between the Long Island Sound and Stony Brook Harbor. Think of an hour glass, this is the middle, skinny section. It is deep and swift and the only option is to shoot from above. Given that this is a species that I really wanted, I had to make do. Light angle is also not ideal this time of year as it's about 30 degrees off from ideal. So shadows are part of the deal here, and so I embraced them and this is the result. As for the frame, SORRY! It does stink. And Rob, if he sticks around and I get to see some color, I will be a happy girl.

It surly dosnt stink but it isnt up to your usual standards. Your shooting angle or as you mentioned, the sun angle wasnt in your favor. Besides the off angle, its a good look at this little bird and I like the red eye and the reflection. See ya soon Grace.

Some fill flash could have brought out more detail in the darks, but I'd bet it's there to be pulled out of the Raw file.
