    Default Mallard Hen at Rest

First post for this forum. This image was taken back in February of 2011 at the head end of New Market Lake in Piscataway NJ. Some of the Mallards at this location are quite cooperative at times. While she wasn't baited, the "locals" are somewhat accustomed to being fed by people visiting the area. Resisted the urge to crop tight in post for a head shot as I wanted to give a hint of the season.

    Canon 7D 400mm 5.6; SS 1/2000 F5.6 ISO 400 Handheld.
Full manual AI Servo Point Expansion (have since become comfortable with spot)

DPP Conversion to TIF, CS6 for Denoise5, Spot removal eye and bill, Topaz clarity (layered 18% opacity on darken) and level tweaks, Lightroom5 for general processing, tweaks and sharpening, local sharpening brush on the head. Image flipped horizontally.

    Edit: 85% of frame intact.

Wonderful first post, and welcome. Very enjoyable to view, superbly processed. I like the hint of snow and fine details in her face and eye. The dark spots above the snow could be lightened a bit. Really looking forward to more of your work and your participation.

    Nice close up!
I also would clean up the water.
    Nice sharpness and IQ.

Thanks for the C&C everyone, I'll see what I can do to lighten or clean-up the mentioned area.

My first reaction was to come in tighter on the head, but on second look I like it as presented. Wonderful detail and sharpness! I'd try to clean up the gray area as much as possible. Great shot!
