    Default Tampa General Area Question

Late in March I have been asked if I wanted to go with my son to do some bird/nature photography for a few days while he visits a Military base in Tampa for the Corps of Engineers. Can anyone please advise me on where to go in the general area to find birds to photograph and where might we stay to put me a position to visit some of the bird hotspots? Any advice would be appreciated!

Fort DeSoto Park is one of the best places for birding and bird photography in Florida. If you go into the Florida Regional forum, you can go back and find quite a bit of information on this park and other places in the vicinity.

One of my favorite locations is Ft Desoto I will get up at 2am so I can be on the road by 3 to make the 3 1/2 hour drive across the state just to be on the North Beach of Desoto at sunrise.

If I was in the Tampa area and I had only one place I could go to it would be Fort Desoto hands down....

Fort Desoto but make sure you go to north beach and walk out to the lagoon and to the point. There is also a 5.00 fee for the park.

    Have fun
