heavily overcast day right next to a small lake near Dresser Wisconsin, (poplar lake).. there appeared to be hundreds of warblers in the area.. on the ground, in the trees, in the air... I saw a flock of around 50 fly past me (hard to know actually.. gee there were a LOT of them)... and they were milling around in all directions.. most of them were yellow rumped/myrtle version... but I captured 9 species.. and there were more that I did not get ... most of my shots were bad as only warblers can make them... they are all too often way to quick for me....

What a lovely subject you have here. I like the general comp with a bright eye and very nice sharpness. It seems a tad light on my screen.

As mentioned, this image is on the bright side...perhaps a half stop too bright. Other than that this looks great...especially...drum roll please...the head angle!! You can now take your HAP "get out of jail" card ;-) I only wish the snapped twig at left was not there though.

Head angle right and nice composition. Agree on bringing down the brightness. I would also desaturate the yellow just a bit to reveal more detail in the bird.

    Hi Kenn,
It sounds like a wonderful warbler day. If we could only predict these!
Beautiful bird and great pose. Do darken it just a bit.

Hi Kenn Do agree on desaturating the yellow Should make a difference. Do like the pose and good head position. Sure wish he had picked a better perch !!! In this situation might have gone wide open to minimize the bg !!!

thanks for all the helpful info and tips... I just got a hot tip that theres a yellow warbler hanging out in a fairly attractive area.. and that I should be able to get a nice shot with a bit of effort there... so maybe I will have another go at it... I can fix some of the things about this one.. but like Alfred said.. the bg wasnt pretty (to say the least, you should be glad you didnt see it unblurred!)...

Hey, Kenn, there are some of these passing through our area too right now and I was fortunate to see some out at the lake....man, they don't stand still for longer than 2 seconds though!! I didn't get any acceptable photos, unfortunately; just couldn't get one isolated from out of the tree leaves for long enough.... I think yours is great but agree that it's a bit too light or bright. Did you get that second chance??

yes.. there have been MANY chances for these... I have at least 100 more pix since this was taken.... here is another one from the same op as this one... its BG is better.. but the framing branch got a bit ambitous around the warblers head..... hopefully I will get a chance to look at and work on the subsequent ones... and post a nice one here.. hopefully the new one will reflect the tips from this thread...
