Default Great Egret in Breeding Plumage

I went to Gatorland in Orlando, Florida this morning. The wading birds have established a rookery in the alligator breeding ponds. Gatorland offers a special photographers pass that gives access to that area at 7:30 AM, two and a half hours before the general public. This image was captured there today.

Nikon D7000, Nikon 70-300mm F/4.5-5.6 VR AF shot at 145mm, 1/800, F/8, ISO 500, -1/3 EV , cropped for composition, post processed in Lightroom 5

This is quite a fine image, Joe. Love the breeding pose and your composition works very nicely. The only thing you may wish to work on a bit are the whites, esp in the birds head and neck which are looking a tad greyish.

Hi Joseph, well timed to have captured this pose, and love the splayed feathers. The egret certainly pops from the green BG, and agree with Marina that having the whites a touch whiter will work a little better.

Just beautiful pose, breeding plumage, habitat and comp. I had the same thought about the whites - just a slight boost might make it pop.
