The next 2 weeks are the best for the eagles photography in Cape Breton in my experience. I am so looking forward to this weekend as the weather forecast is excellent.
Taken last weekend . We throw salmon fish heads onto the ice floes in the harbor to attract them.

I don't usually go for a square comp but I felt this was the way to go. What do you think of the crop?
PP Crop to ~ 70%FF,NR to BG, increased exposure on the eagle brown feathers by 0.3, levels, DE at 2% on bird then USM to JPEG at 35%
Comments and critiques always appreciated and learned from with thanks,

Gail, This is spectacular topside of view of Bald Eagle you have captured. Love the wing position showing nice details, nice HA, lights and BG with clouds.
Square composition looks beautiful with this pose, since there is enough space for him to look down.

    Regards,
    Satish.

Superb image Gail. Really like the topside view. I think your square crop works and think a vertical crop would also work.

    Gail,

I'm in the same boat with square crops, but this image has very strong diagonals that I think it works quite well.

As usual, great exposure on this guy. Nice head angle. I only wish the tail was showing just a tad more.

I don't mind the crop (in fact because of the diagonal pose I didn't really notice it.)

Excellent top view, nice head turn and the diagonal position in the frame works well, Gail.

I love the square crop, fits the pose perfectly! Still cant figure out why so many people are afraid of square or even squarish comps. Weird, your an artist but you need to conform to a specific format ??
Do what "you" think looks best for "your" shot.
Besides the perfect comp, the shot is very nice. Great HA and a real nice look at the feather detail in the wings. Exposure and details look right on too. Love the clouds in the sky. If I had one crit it would be that it would have been nice to see a bit more of the tail but otherwise, Killer Gail.
