Default Anyone get their 5DMKIII to AF at 1400mm, I have.

Ever since the Firmware update which allowed the 5DMKIII to AF at f/8 I have been playing around with coupling extenders and I found that when I attach the Kenko 2X Teleplus Pro 300 to the 5DMKIII and then attach the Canon 1.4X II extender to the Kenko then both to the 500 f/4 IS L Series 1 that I can get AF at 1400mm. with good quality images. I use the central square focusing pattern with all squares with a dot in them I get very good results. Forget BIFs but I use it for distance shots on my Gitzo. By the way the Camera reports this combination as f/5.6 in the viewfinder.

I'd appreciate it if you could post a 100% RAW file crop of a nice frame using this setup.

Me too! I've stacked the Canon 1.4X Mark II extender and the Canon 2X Mark II extender on my Canon 500mm f/4 Mark I lens with the 7D and focussed using Live View. The quality of the resulting images was barely acceptable.

Doug I will do my best which means as I am limited to CS4 I must conver my 5DMKIII RAWs to DNGs open them in Adobe CS4 ACR crop to 100% convert to Jpeg thence into Photobucket then post them here. I have not posted Images on BPN for a few years as I only use BPN as a reference tool.

Point to be noted I use a combination of Canon 1.4X Con and KENKO 2X Con. Not a Canon 2x Con. When I checked the EXIF Data on my original Jpegs taken alongside the RAW files on the CF card the reported 1000mm on the DNGs in ACR they read 700mm.

The distance from my back door is about 50 meters.

    I hope this helps

I have tried this setup on my 1DMKIII but no luck. I am house bound at present thanks to crashing my Velocette 500 in last month's Vintage MC races and I have a shattered Patella but I will try to shoot some birds next week, I have the 500 set up in my Laundry at present.
