Default Weekly Theme: Field of yellow

Long ago it was summertime and I photographed these yellow flowers while hiking above 10,000 feet in the Colorado wilderness. On a cold, windy winter day it was fun to work with the bright yellows!

Topaz underpainting, reduced opacity with main flowers masked out; a reduced layer of fractalius, a bit of PS cooling filter, Nik image borders.

When I looked at the thumbnail, my reaction was that bright yellow would be welcome with all the snow piled up outside (and more on the way tonight). I really like the background and foreground, both separately and together. That little bit of blue contrasts nicely with the yellow. I like the border you used, too.

Every once in a long while, I've clicked the Topaz Simplify Underpainting preset and shook my head, but I'm going to have to look at it anew.

    I envy your hiking locations!!!
I love these sunny flowers, with petals going this way and that. Nice processing. I might crop some off left and top, but it is fine as is. Like Dennis, I'll need to give underpainting a look.

Nancy, when I saw the thumbnail, I thought this was going to be a traditional DoF image-, upon opening it-what a neat surprise! A vibrant piece with just the right amount of realism blended with artistic touches. The composition is strong though I might trim the left side just a bit. I like the glow created by the under painting filter-like Dennis, one I've tried but never really understood it's usefullness. A well executed piece that I feel fits the theme well.

What they said -- also a vote for a bit off the left.

Thanks all! Good suggestion about cropping some off from the left. That will give more emphasis to the vertical components.

Anita, this area has the most beautiful wildflowers & mountain scenery in the summer. The drawback is that it is a grueling 10 mile hike straight up the mountain. My husband & I use llamas to carry tent, sleeping bags, etc. and we stay a week.

I like the yellows and the selective focus. I might crop some off the top. Cheery indeed!

Thanks all! Still in the grips of winter here but already planning this summers' llama trek!
