I posted this over in Hand of man, and it seems to have sparked some creativity so, at Lana's suggestion, I'm bringing it over here for folks to play with and see what comes of it.

If you scroll down in the original thread, you can see shat Dan Brown did with it. I like his version a LOT more than the original.

If you feel like it, play a bit and see what you can do with it. I'm always up for learning new OOB techniques.

I couldn't resist! I used the illustrated version of your image and moved the eye to the center, twirled it and played with a few more eyes.

Way cool so far. Anyone else?

I wish I had the creative juices to come up with this stuff more readily on my own.

    Hey Jim,
I cropped.......added blue feathers to lower part with rotation and blending with the healing brush. Liquified eye........feathers leading out of frame on all 4 corners..........local contrast adjustment and saturation. Viola!
Overall....this is mostly the liquify function! let me know what you think!
PS I did clean up the highlight in eye......not sure I had to!

Adding the blue is a big plus! I think the pinched look of the eye gives it a sad feeling.

Cool! Roman. The eye looks like it belongs to some kind of devil bird! Dan Brown

    Jim,

Your image was a good candidate for some creative exercises. Nice idea to post and ask for interpretations.

Ok, here's my attempt at tapping in to the creative side of the brain:

Glowing edges, sharpened with all the sliders maxed out, cloned in a bit of feathers over a hot spot.

    Not sure I like it.

Oh yeah, and cropped it a bit.

    Hey Jim,
This one was fun........and the possibilities endless. Added blue again below eye.........added palatte (100pixels all around) for liquification of the entire bird/except eye. Everything boosted (sat/contrast color balance).......sharpened.......posterized.......br ightened......final product had to be saved as 50 quality jpeg.

    Hi Fabs,
Like a 60's poster! I have to get a few toy filters. Jim.......you should have added some color under eye as the dark area draws me in tooo much.
