This Ptarmigan was as it turned out, protecting its young. Trip to Iceland in the summer of 2012. I can't emphasize enough how spectacularly beautiful Iceland is. So many varieties of nesting birds at this time.

WOW -love everything about it. Soft light, raindrops, Ptarmy attitude, grey lichen rock and the purple blossom. When is the summer in Iceland-I'll book my ticket
Great job of getting really low on this shot, it gives you a marvelous background. The bird sure cooperated by hopping on that rock. The dominant greens and browns really set up this shot for the outstanding red eyebrow and that small purple flower in front of the rock. Super image all around.
Thanks Douglas, Raybel, John, and Ian for your compliments. Douglas I was in Iceland in late June early July. If I'm not mistaken summer is beginning of June to end of August. Also realize the sun never really sets in summer so you have many hours of good light.
This is a lovely image.
Great colors ( love the little purple flower) and the rock is the perfect setting for the aptly named rock ptarmigan.
Nice mood. Only thing to make this better would have been a slightly better head angle but I am being really picky.
Well done,
Gail
