    Default White winged scoter flap

I set my goal for this winter to improve my duck portfolio, but got distracted early on by the snowy owl invasion. Spent a nice afternoon late last month with a few very cooperative scoters. Here is one of my favs from the session. Please don't comment on the shooting angle, because a lower angle (which I would like too) would cost me my life and as much as I like avian photogarphy I have my limits.

Nice work Grace. I like the exposure on this one as it shows the feather detail beautifully and the wing flap adds lots of interest and movement. Nice look at the eye too. Well done

    Grace:

I agree with David, nice detail in the blacks. The little area of white around the eye helps a lot. The shooting angle is OK, and if that is the best that is possible, so be it!

    Live to photograph another day!

    Cheers

Very nicely exposed, really like the detail throughout. I'm not very familiar with these ducks, but that eye detail is just great. He looks far better insulated from the cold than you could hope for, so continue to stay a bit high but dry.

Hi Grace, these really are strange looking ducks. Great capture and processing with great detail in all colours.
