This beautifull lady resides at one of the fresh water ponds at Pine Crest Gardens. I painted her on my lunch hour yesterday with my "NEVER LEAVE HOME WITHOUT IT" Canon Power Shot A620 point and shoot...;)

Technically a fine image Gus. With flowers since they don't run away from you composition/setting become more important.

Image looks good but I'm sure you could come up with a different bg. Point and shoot have a tremendous dof and its difficult blurring the bg. So figure you are making images at f 11.0 or 16.0 and look for the appropriate bg. A flower standing by itself, a bug, butterfly etc.

btw next time try using the P&S wide open. Lots of possibilities !!!

    Hi Oscar,
Not really, I went to scout the area for macro subjects and flowers and to see the different light angles and shadows created by Mr. Sun in the garden...:) I think we are going to need our speedlights with the defuser on. and a tripod...:D:D:D

nice catch, gus!! i like it compositionally. i think that if you could get over the lily and shoot straight down into it with some of the leaves around it, it would be pretty cool, too!! hope to see you guys soon.

Beautiful colors, Gus. I shot with a Canon S3 IS for about a year before finally getting my 40D this January and Alfred is right. Shoot wide open with those cameras and really look for clean BG because they tend to show EVERYTHING. One thing you might try with this is to select the green areas and do a gaussian blur to bring down the distractions that are on all the lily pad leaves. They are small, granted, but the do pull your eye away from "the lady." As you probably know, we "ladies" like to be the center of attention. :)
