Always interesting with their spiky crest and long thin red bill with serrated edges, this merganser was feeding very close to a low lying jetty where I patiently waited for the right moment.

I have never seen them up close. Nice capture and detail and i would like to see his tail feathers. Not as red a breast as i have seen from a distance.

Nice exposure here, and the details are very good. I'm liking the wake in front of the subject. I just find the merganser too low in the frame...pointing your lens down more would have been excellent...or, if you have it, adding canvas back below.

Great look at this guy and I like the feather detail and the colors. Exposure looks and the red eye looks nice too. I agree with Dan about moving him up in the frame if you have it. Well done.

Killer portrait with terrific light and details. Agree on the crop not being optimal for this image. Do you have any more space below? If not, I would take off more from the right and top and recrop a little tighter.

Thanks very much for commenting. If there is any canvas below, I will recrop as suggested.

Rob, that is beautiful all around. If you were to send me a print, I would gladly hang it up! lol, seriously, love the detail and everything else. Grand job indeed.

As suggested, I moved the merganser up in the frame. I hope this is better and thank you.
