This image was taken during our recent trip to Antarctica, at Bongrain Point in Marguerite Bay, south of the Antarctic Circle. The chicks were big and fat, indicating an an early season hatching and a good food supply. This chick was still in the full downy stage and hadn't started to molt into it's adult feathers yet. I think they are the cutest at this stage.

Very cute indeed!! I like the rocky habitat and the fact the parent is standing on a "pedestal". I realize the chick is soft and fuzzy but I wonder if it can be selectively given a bit more sharpening - looks like it may have been just a tad out of dof range. Very sweet image Linda!

What a super family portrait you have shared! Love how the adult appears to be bowing to its offspring. I am liking the interest offered by the monochromatic palette and the rocks of the environment. Agree on a tad more sharpening of junior.

Thanks everyone. I reworked the image with extra sharpening to the chick. What do you think?
