Here is the familiar woodland bird, the White-breasted Nuthatch. The body pointing down and head lifted up as here is the typical pose these guys like to strike...and one that makes it loved by many. Of the local "resident" birds I've always had a soft spot for the WB Nuthatch...

Canon 7D + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/400s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, 80% FF (cropped left and top), softened the right edge of the tree from top of frame to the bill, darkened the pupil.

    Daniel:
I like them too, a bit contrarian in their habits!

The birch trunk works well, and I like that as the bg for the head, versus white sky.

I like the fluffed up, very curved profile of the breast, mirrored by the curving lines of the trunk beneath him.

    Well done.

    Cheers

A classic pose and a nice looking image Dan. Lots of nice feather detail against the high key BG and the corn kernel in the beak is cool. Well done

Hi Dan, well placed in the frame, and I like how he is posed downwards and looking out of the frame. The food item in the beak against the snow BG works well. Overall well exposed, and love those blues blending into the whites.

Fantastic shot Daniel, a great job of this one. Really like the way you caught the fluffed up feathers so sharp but looking soft overall, just like they always look. Very well done.

These are among my favorites too, Daniel. Nice job exposing for the bird against strong back/side light !

The iconic pose makes it special.

Wonderful pose and composition. The way the bird is nestled into the bark is perfect.
The feathers on the top of the birds head and upper back seem paler than on the Nuthatches in my backyard. Perhaps it is regional variation.
