    Hi Everyone,
Not as much activity this year with the short-eared owls out here on the left coast. Just managed to get this relatively close up image of one on a fence post at the local estuary. It was near sundown so it gives the picture a kind of mysterious look. Hope you like it.

    Stats: Canon EOS-1D Mark4, 600 IS2 with 1.4X, ISO400, F/7.1, 1/250sec

    Take care and good light,

    Steve

What a find! I like how well defined the "mustache" is around the nose.
I like the fence post because it is old and weathered.
But the BG is really distracting, especially the bright branches across the top.

PS In hindsight, an aperture of 4.0 may have served you better to blur the BG out even more.

Awesome bird posing in a tough spot. Love the stare. You did best you could...despite the busy setting I don't know anyone who would not have photographed this magnificent owl at that same spot. I'd be tempted to lessen the bluish cast caused by the shade.

The bird looks very nice but unfortunately the background is kind of too busy Steve. It would be a lot of work but may be worth to clone some of the branches out.

    Hi Guys,
Here is the remake. Left some of the darker branches in the background for environment sake.

    Take care,

    Steve

A beautiful bird, I also like the weathered post. The barb wire even works here. I would like a better background, as gail mentioned maybe f4, but still a nice find.
