    Default Red Fox Portrait

Hi - posting this for Ashleigh today while she is in school.

We spent some time practicing processing this one last night. It was composed almost as is in her camera - she cropped about 5% off.

    Canon EOS 7D
Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II USM

    ISO 250
    f/9
    1/1250

She wishes for a bit more head turn to get the shadow out of the other eye.

Slight bump in saturation, minor USM and minor shadow work on the fox's right eye. No NR was done but looks like this could be added.

This is a wild fox (female) photographed in a state park in New Jersey. Lots more shots to review!

    Many thanks, Gerry (Ashleigh's Dad)

Hi Ashleigh and Gerry - I think you processed this very well. There's enough color coming through from the eye despite the shadow. Nice job on the exposure, sharpness and detail. The comp works for me as well. The only thing that I would do if it were mine is drop the blacks and the yellows in the whites in selective color. Keep them coming.

    TFS,
    Rachel

P.S. It looks like you have some good images for our upcoming first theme. See this sticky: http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...LOPMENT-Themes

Gorgeous animal, well-captured, and your previous one, too! Look forward to seeing more!

This is a beautiful image of an animal I would love to see in the wild. I agree that a bit more head-turn would be nice, but I would be very happy with this.

Ashley, this is a very good shot with excellent detail and sharpness. Simple design and clean BG. It is amazing that you could be that close and he just turned back to look at you. Your techs are good and f9 was a good choice to give you good DOF. I'd try to brighten the eyes a tad. TFS. Loi

A nice clean quality portrait, Ashleigh! I'd tone down overall exposure just a smidgen if it were mine.
