I was driving along the Tamiami Trail in Florida and saw this Heron peeking out from the edge of the swamp. It just begged a photo...

I used Fotosketcher to create this image, this is free software and it just keeps getting bettere with each version.

It was a pleasure meeting up with BPN Moderator Cheryl for a few good walks through her part of the country.

Micanopy is a wonderful little town and one day I'll go back and spend a few hours just photographing some of the old buildings.

Ah, the elusive GBH! I like the mosses hanging around him that compliment his colors. It was great having a chance to absorb some of your birding knowledge and chat, Paul. Hope you made it home with your mission accomplished

Yep, the colors of the heron and the moss -- in addition to the pose of the heron -- really make this image. I'd be inclined to capitalize on that by cropping some from the left but leaving enough breathing room for heron. It would move his eye further away from the horizontal center, would make the moss and heron proportionately larger, and eliminate some of those competing greens. It is quite nice the way it is, however.

Very nice -- what a perfect environment. I like Dennis' suggestion, and wonder if this is one that might do well with some burning around the edges? Might give it a slight aura of the darkness of the swamp.

I like the amount of crop. The border you added is very striking, too, because of the gray and because it fits with the peek-a-boo title. I think I'd back it off in intensity a bit, though, so it complements the related colors in the image but doesn't compete with it for attention. The border is really interesting. From where did it come?

I like how this Heron both blends into the environment, yet is visible. Probably, due to your photographic artistry.
I like the crop in the repost--allows the Heron to be more center of focus. The unusual border works for me. I'm slightly distracted by the bright heart shaped leaf at the bottom of the image.
As others have written, the mosses are special.

I love the moss surrounding the heron. It creates a lot of interest. I'm not too fond of the gray in the border.
