    Default Virginia Rail portrait.

Went back to my Rail/Sora spot last evening...it clouded over just as I walked out the door, and as it was getting late it was rather dark earlier then planned. Photo is taken with flash as main source of light. Recording used to lure the Rail in. Man is this species ever responsive...I used the tape for only a couple of minutes for the hour I was there. It was not nervous at all and just went about business right in front me...feeding, preening, yawning. The grass is growing quickly so I'll have to make a few more visits before the clear sightings become impossible:D

    Canon 40D + 100-400L @400mm, 1/125s., f/6.3, ISO640, flash (420 EX) at -1/3 FEC, handheld, ~90% full frame, just about MFD.

A lovely portrait of this elusive species, Daniel. The flash worked very well here. I like the color on the beak and the texture of the feathers. Well done.

Excellent portrait. All the more impressive is the use of flash as your main source of light, because it doesn't really look flashed. Nicely done.

Very nice colors and details. Flash light source looks very natural to my eye.

I am in love with this image. The detail is incredible and the dark BG adds to the mood. Excellent view up close with this portrait.....and just the right amount of flash to make it look natural. I have just drooled over this one.
