Nice job of catching a great wing position on the flap. The head and breast look a bit oversharpened to me. The eye is nice and sharp. This is a tough species in FLA. Were you in a blind or just hunkered down on the shoreline? Do you know if the ducks respond to being fed there?

Thanks Arthur. I was out in the open down low along the shore. The ducks were cautious at first but then slowly came in closer. I didn't try to fed them so I'm not sure how that would work out. The ponds at the end of the condos on the way out to Fort Desoto on the west side of the road.

Jim just booked a couple of weeks in Florida so can't wait, like the pose of your duck and the different shades in the water, afraid the old eyes can't see the sharpness problem that Arthur mentions .

Nice image Jim, I like the wing position. Your image shows the chestnut colored ring that gives the duck it's name, few images of this duck show that. I have driven by that pond many times, never stopping. I will have to pay more attention to it when going to Ft. Desoto.

Superb work Jim.
Only thing I will suggest is a little CW rotation?

Hi Jim, love the light, well exposed, as the sheen on the head and neck stand out nicely, not to mention the whites of the belly. I like the colours in the water. I agree with a touch of CW rotation.

Good work catching the wing flap, Jim. Body position is also very nice, with a good sharp eye. Yes to some CW rotation. As noted above, the signature ring on the neck rarely shows up on images of this bird. You have to get him in an upright position, as you've done nicely here.

What a great textbook image. The ring really shows well here.
yes to some rotation.
And if you are too cold just go back to Florida!!

Thanks everyone for the comments and suggestions. Gail I'm getting out of the cold by going to Costa Rica. I hope to get some nice images there at places I've been to and new ones.

Very nice wingflap and I appreciate the nice view of the "ring" neck.
Artie: Randy and I had lots of great chances with this species in Lakeland, Florida (Lake Morton). They were accepting of food over there...

Post a Thank You. - 1 Thanks

Perfectly timing Jim. Love the slight head turn and the ring showing. Well exposed. +1 to CW rot.
Have a great time in Costa Rica. Looking forward to some of those "exotic" birds.

Thanks Jim. I know that pond and have seen the ducks but have never stopped there.
