I've never been able to sneak up on Kingfishers. Wonderful that you got so close!
The warm background looks good behind this blue bird.
The image has the full tonal range, you pushed it right to the edge but not over; you've got white whites and black blacks but nothing clipped.
I think some might suggest darkening the perch a bit. Perhaps that would help but I'm not sure.

Great BG; I like the perch; Excellent techs. I wish I could see the kingfisher's crest.

Doug, I think this is an excellent image of a KF. These guys are small and I don't know how you could :sneak up" on one on foot. Good field craft here. IQ is great, sharp, detail. I think the image is a little dark overall and may benefit from a slight boost of the mid tone. The underwing is just a little bit greyish. I don't know this species well to comment on accuracy of colors, but you might want to see if there is a slight blue color cast on the underwing. I'm OK with the perch. TFS. Loi

Pretty good job sneaking up on this little devil...my nemesis bird!!! Lovely details, light and BG. Would darken the perch a little and remove the blue cast from the underwing. Great details!
