    Default Gimbal head question?

    Hello all,

I am purchasing a Nikon 300mm f2.8 VR ii lens and I would like to know which Gimbal head will work well with this lens and TCs? Any advise please?

    Thank you!

You have two options, a sidekick or a full gimbal. If you plan on upgrading your 300mm to a bigger lens than get a full gimbal (I use the wh-200 with my 600mm). If you are going to always use a 300mm lens then get a sidekick. It is also personal preference. When I started out, I used a full gimbal with my 300mm + tc's knowing that I will eventually upgrade my lens. Some brands to look at are Wimberley, 4th generation, and Really Right Stuff. Also, make sure you buy a replacement lens foot or lens plate. Don't go cheap. Buy the best and it will last forever.

I would also recommend a full gimble as you never know if you will want to get a larger lens (or rent one). I've been very happy with my Induro GHB2 which I use with my Canon 500mm f/4. You do want something well made - that is an expensive camera and piece of glass you're trusting it with.

Hi Raybel, I would agree on looking at both the Wimberley & Monogoose, solid well made and will last a lifetime, but again, it may also be budget driven. Also think/look ahead as you may in time purchase a longer lens.

I saw the Katana gimbal at a recent Expo and was very impressed.
