This little guy was taking peanuts I used as bait to attract magpies and jays - I let him have a few then shoo'd him off...needless to say he returned when I left the scene!

Hi Jonathan. this is one nice piece of a 7D image at high iso, i think very well processed with nice detail, colors and sharpness, evtl back off a tiny fraction.
Very pleasing BG and a very attractive stump to attract the birds or squirrels .
I would give a slight contrast mask to the mid tones in the subject to give it slightly more depth?
Sadly you cut off the tail hairs .

I think some 7D owners should no,longer complain about 7D high Iso shots and IQ !!!!!! Look at this……..

    Hello Jonathan,

That is one interesting perch you got there! Love the colours, as well as the squirrel and the expression on its face, kind of startled and about to flee Like Andreas already mentioned, a bit more space at the bottom is needed. Lovely image, great to see you posting here, hope to see more from you

    Warmest regards,

Put bleach in the spray. I thought us Europeans were immune but apparently some idiot diplomat from USA import greys to Italy and they are spreading.... otherwise nice bushy rat shot. :)

I like the pose, colours, soft light and setting here Jonathan. Kudos on getting a file of this quality at that ISO from the 7D!
A tad tight at the bottom as mentioned...and I like the seen of the silver fur on its coat.

Hi Jonathan - great IQ from the 7D at high ISO. Nicely processed. Good suggestions above. I too would prefer a bit more room at the bottom.

Great image, nice details and amazing IQ especially at ISO 2000 and with -1 EV!

I would like a bit more below and there's a small amount of magenta in the fur of the squirrel. Otherwise great - don't think I ever got a shot like this with my 7D.

Hi Jonathan, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the best wildlife images I have seen taken with the &d and at such a high ISO, nice one.

Definitely it needs more room at the foot, likewise if you are shooting here again I would remove the OOF grass stems in front of the prop to provide more clarity. The DOF coupled with the 500 compressing the BKG has created a nice defused look and helped separate the subject. Agree with Ed, the subjects needs a slight tweak in the colour balance, but not much. I like the Silver birch, but the broken branch is a little ugly, I wonder if you can rotate it may help?

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I was set up to get jays and magpies not squirrels hence the tight crop.
As I was reading your comments I couldn't understand why you thought IQ was so good for a high ISO then I noticed a couple of you referred to ISO 2000....... well I am sorry but also embarrassed, but I made a typo it wasn't ISO 2000 it was ISO 800, I only wish I could get ISO 2000 like that.
