Nicely composited with a top and bottom dark layer and the light breaking through behind the heron in the middle layer. I can easily "feel" the moment you depicted with the light suddenly breaking through threatening clouds & a startled heron taking flight.

Hi, Mitch, I like the composition and the heron. I think I'd prefer that the sunburst be just a little less bright.

great painting.... really does not look photographic, that's a compliment, have no idea how you accomplished this, very cool.

Really nice idea, and I love the BG. But for me the whites in the sky are just a little too overpowering. I'm also wondering how it would look with the bird a little bigger and more to the left. Or else crop from the left -- not a lot is happening there, but I do like the dark clouds in the UL.

Hi Mitch, I really like the concept and overall execution-as others have noted, the sunburst seems a little hot. I would've played with slight transparency levels on the Heron or reduced contrast on that element to soften it's presence a tad, but that is a minor critique. The image has a dreamlike quality and really does feel like a painting, without being "over cooked" well done!

The processing on this was real simple. The background was a stitched panorama, and the heron pic was taken about 20 minutes later. Both layers were run through Simplify separately, and I am afraid I don't remember the settings. I just keep fooling with them...
