This summer I found a dense stand of brush with a blue grosbeak nest hidden inside. After failing to get anything decent of the singing male, the female posed nicely with a mouthful of bugs for the chicks. The perfect framing of the dried branches really made this one for me.

like the colors, detail and comp. Well done. The mouth full of bugs is definitively a plus. TFS

Awesome pose offered to you by this beautiful female. Love the perch, and the very nice BG. Prey item, of course, is a good bonus. Is that a bit of processing remnant at bottom of the perch (due to burning?)

Beautiful image of the female....which in my opinion is a bit of a bigger accomplishment that photographing the male, which is frequently lured in with call playback. Subject pose is very strong. Lovely background colors/control/subject isolation. Composition rocks with the elements nicely balanced and placed well in the frame. Does appear to be a little post processing to the bottom left on the perch the bird is on....

Bugs are so clear-almost makes me hungry. I enjoy the fine details of the more common and seemingly bland colours

Hi Aidan, nicely framed in the fork of the perch, and a cool show off pose too. Lovely smooth BG that compliments the bird nicely, and yes, her beak full of food a bonus.

I like the mouthful of bugs, pose, details, sharpness, perch and overall complimentary colours. Beautiful image Aidan!

Hi Aidan, cracking image even if it is the female ,nice and sharp with a beak full of grubs on a nice BG you could not ask for more, wish I could see the post processing nit.

Thanks all for the comments! The bit at the bottom is actually an OOF twig, it's in the RAW file too.

Interesting Aidan. I'd still vote for getting rid of it, (the bit at the bottom), if that's not against your ethics...

Love the image design, Aidan, with the bird framed perfectly between the two branches. BG complements nicely and you get extra points for the food. Terrific image.
